Hello

Hello to everyone at OLSH. I am working at the Canberra Institute of Technology in the Learning Centre. I have been here since January 26 and I have been learning lots of new things. I hope everyone has welcomed the new library assistant at Traeger and any other new staff. If anyone would like to contact me you can send an email to peri.robertson@cit.act.edu.au . I wish everyone a happy and successful 2010. I already bumped into some OLSH students at the airport yesterday in Canberra. I hope to see many more in the years to come.

Naidoc Week 2009

Today Traeger celebrated Naidoc week with a bbq and the official presentation of the Indigenous mural. The mural was created by the students at Traeger along with the support of the IEW's . Special guests, staff and students witnessed the unveiling of the beautiful display of artwork. It is mounted on the wall outside of the Gilchrist hall and looks amazing. Thanks to everyone that worked on the mural and those behind the scenes such as Mr Ray.

Art at Traeger

On display outside of the library you will see a beautiful arrangement of art that the students in Ms Richters classes have created. Lots of thought and hard work went into these creations. Please come by and have a look but please don't touch.

Traeger staff and students collecting coins for a good cause.

Today all students along with their homeroom teachers competed to make the longest line of coins in the Gilchrist hall in order to raise funds to support the Sadadeen staff and students who are heading to East Timor. Each homeroom placed their coins in a line on the ground to see who had the longest. Thank you to everyone who got involved. Lots of fun was had.

T & D news

The old Traeger staffroom has been redone into a T & D room. For those of you who have not had the chance to see it I can assure you that the transformation of this old, dreary room into a bright, fresh workspace is amazing. Thank you to everyone that made this happen. Staff and students look forward to spending some quality time in there creating some masterpieces.

What in the world is that????

It’s a Double-nosed Andean tiger hound!!!!
The Double-nosed Andean tiger hound is a rare breed of hound that has been seen in Bolivia. Many people believe the double nose increases their scent discrimination abilities; however, there is no research to indicate whether the double nose is a benefit or a hindrance.
The "double nose" appears to be a normal dog's nose, but with the nostrils separated by a band of skin and fur dividing the nose all the way to the dog's upper lip.

Founders Day

Founder’s day is about remembering and celebrating on the history of our school. Founder’s day is mostly for new students that are new to the schools, but also for old students to remember the background of OLSH. Founder’s day will be held on the 5th June at the Telegraph Station. There will be a liturgy, activities for all of the houses. Bath Street will be focusing on St. Marcellin Champagnat. Traeger will be focusing on Jules Chevalier and Sadadeen-OLSH sisters

Murder under the microscope

During Activities a group of students are competing against the rest of Australia to figure out a fictional environmental murder in NSW. Mrs. Neyland, the agents leader, is helping the team as much as she can so they can win this awesome competition! We wish them the best of luck this term.

Term 2

Welcome back to Traeger. Hope you all had a great break and had the chance to catch up with friends and family. The weather is already getting a little colder so don't forget to label the kids jumpers/jackets ready to wear to school this term. There is always a large number of lost property items at the front office. The year 7 camp will be coming up this term which should be lots of fun for those involved and also the Bangtail Muster, ANZAC Day and preparations for the Alice Springs show. Enjoy the term.

Congratulations

The Desert Rebels were undefeated at the NT Little League Baseball Championships over the holiday break. They played against teams from Darwin, Palmerston and Alice Springs. Well done to those boys in the team from OLSH Traeger and good luck at the Australian Championships in June at Surfers Paradise.
